Virgo International was formed 1980. The original
members of the sound came from all around the
Caribbean at an early age. The bookings were mainly
for private parties, weddings, christenings and even
funeral receptions in London, Leeds, Ipswich and
Huddersfield.
Virgo is a family sound-system and its owner is
known as Father Floyd, due to his being the founder
and oldest member. The Sound System's DJ's
consists of family members and family friends
(Stally Ranks, Wiz Kid, Parmerdise. Junior Don,
Notorious, and Cory).
Throughout the 27 years the sound has been formed
they have seen many sound members come and go, but
the sound has virtually remained the same, pumping
out clear crisp sounds. Virgo play any and
everything, music to suit all occasions and
catering for all age groups.
Virgo also
play at Huddersfield, Luton and Leeds Carnivals, but
always look forward to Notting Hill where they have
been participating since 1981. The site is on the
corner of Oxford Gardens and Portobello Road,
outside The People’s Theatre. Virgo have developed
this site into one of the most popular corners in
Carnival, and in 2006 needed to apply for a special
licence as their crowd had become so large.
A few years ago a van containing
their
entire Sound System equipment was unfortunately
stolen one month before Carnival. Virgo however
managed to put together a music system in time for
the event and after that Carnival they built another
Sound System, bigger and better than before. As the
saying goes 'you can’t keep a good man down', well
Virgo now have their own unique new saying which is-
'you can't keep a good set down'. Like the phoenix
they rose again.
Virgo
remain to be a very close family orientated sound
system and intend to be around for many more years
to come.
