Mastermind Roadshow
originates and is still based out of London NW10.
Formed in the late Seventies, Mastermind were the
pioneers of R&B/Hip Hop soundsystem movement within
the UK. They worked alongside
names such as Soul 2 Soul, Tim Westwood, David
Rodigan, plus many others both nationally and
internationally. In addition to the normal activity
throughout the year which includes working overseas,
Mastermind has been playing in Notting Hill Carnival
since 1979 beginning next to Ladbroke Grove Station
with another soundsystem called TWJ.
Mastermind moved to the infamous ''caged '' area
under the Westway, which became THE place to be at
Carnival to hear ''banging Hip Hop and R&B '', with
the best of British and International acts
frequently performing over the two days.
In 1989 after a two year break, Mastermind relocated
to the top of Ladbroke Grove next to Sainsbury's.
This has now been established as one of the main
Soundsystem Stage locations, again with live PA's on
both days of Carnival, with particular focus on the
promotion of UK talent and the usual diet of Banging
R&B/ Hip Hop both past and present, in true
Mastermind style.

January 2008 Update
Well firstly
belated New Years greetings to you and yours.
Mastermind had a great festive season
bringing in the New Year at Club Quarters in EC4,
London which was an outstanding success and a good
time had by all.
After hearing today the forthcoming weather
forecast, thank god I am on my annual pilgrimage to
Barbados and then Trinidad to take in the Carnival
Season so whilst you all will be suffering the
predicted very cold February in the UK all wrapped
up to the max, I will be basking in 30 degree plus
sun, either on the beach or in a party... lovely
jubbly...
As is always the case January does take a while to
warm up but we are now beginning to ramp up the
activity...
The Blag Club, Masterminds residency, has become the
place to be on a Friday so if you have not yet been
make sure you check it out, playing the best Ol
Skool classics with a touch of smooth R&B for those
mature ravers who know how to have a good time.
We can confirm the Elegance Masquerade Easter Ball
will be happening again this year on the 8th April,
the Tobago Jazz Festival in mid/late April, the
Grenada Experience in May and the massive
Soulvillage Weekender in July as well as the annual
Rotterdam trip so lots to look forward to over the
forthcoming months so please try and make sure you
''get on the bus'' and join us. Details of most are
below.
Well enjoy your spring and hope to see you at least
one of the upcoming events ...

Another year has passed and yet another successful
and Safe Carnival was enjoyed by all at Mastermind.
We had a great two days with the unpredictable
English weather holding out at the important times
of the day to ensure everyone was able to make the
most of the time in the sun.
As per usual the vibe was electric over the two days
with the Children's Day, as always, thoroughly
gratifying to see so many ''youngsters'' having a
great time and the Monday saw the adults giving the
youngsters a run for their money enjoyment wise. It
was also great to see the multitude of cultures
really enjoying themselves in the sun.
I would like to thank our Sponsors SuperMalt and the
newly appointed associated Mastermind member Phil
Betts of the RAF for once again supporting
Mastermind this year and look forward to 2008 which
here in the UK is a notable milestone in Black
History as it will be 201 years since the abolition
of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Notting Hill
Carnival will be playing a significant part in
commemorating this milestone.
Also want to thank to PA's who appeared on our stage
over the two days. At Mastermind we always give
preference/opportunity to the local/UK talent to
show their skills and this year the standard was of
the highest calibre.
I will also be loading some of this year's photos
courtesy of the official Mastermind Photographer
Gordon Munro and if you see any that you would like
copies of please do contact him at
